About Us
Richard tragically died in April 2016 and family, friends and colleagues want to continue his legacy. With this in mind we have formed the Richard Towers Hand Up Foundation. Like Richard, the foundation will help those in need to find work in their chosen career.
Richard was born in England and grew up in Whangarei where he attended the local schools. He was a talented and competitive athlete. In his early days he didn’t place much emphasis on his education. That was to change when he found the path he wanted to follow.
After high school Richard moved to Auckland to study accountancy; initially full time and then part-time when he started work. During this period he met Tracy, married and had two children, Dillon and Hilary.
Richard worked as an Assistant Accountant at Marac Finance before ‘following his heart’, moving into share broking in the early 1980’s with McLeod Pownall, Frank Renouf & Co and then Craig & Co in 1988 (now Craigs Investment Partners). This was to become a life-long passion.
Richard was very professional and well regarded. He was a forming member of the Craig & Co Auckland office. He had a large client base and despite a busy schedule Richard would always make time to catch-up with his clients, many of whom became friends over the years.
Richard’s greatest love in life was his family, followed by close friends. He had real passion around sharing time, conversation, wine and food with those he most cared about. He also enjoyed following football and had a keen interest in Hi-Fi.
Richard was a good listener and enjoyed catching-up with people, often providing help and advice when needed. Richard had great compassion and would help anyone whenever he could. He was generous and loved giving to others.
